Moin! Week seven was a real rollercoaster, starting with official evaluations from our instructors, moving into steady tech routine at the shop, and ending with a high-energy weekend to recharge for the final stretch.

Mid-Week Visits and Evaluations

The week kicked off with a focus on reflection and feedback as our supervisors checked in on both our living and working situations:

  • Villa Visit: On Monday, our instructors from Germany arrived at our villa. It was a great opportunity to show them how we’ve organized our communal life and managed our daily routines outside of work.
  • Office Evaluation: The professional review continued on Tuesday with a visit to the shop, where our instructors had an insightful talk with our supervisor, Maria, regarding our progress and how well we integrated into the team.
  • Poolside BBQ: To wrap up the review on a high note, we hosted a barbecue and a pool party at the house in the evening, providing a great atmosphere to unwind and chat in an informal setting.

Tech Front: Customer Care and Hardware Routine

With the restructuring of the shop fully completed, the workflow this week was all about efficiency, utilizing the new layout, and tackling standard hardware issues:

  • Laden & Support: Since we already proved we can hold down the fort, we handled a lot of customer service and consultations this week, managing the front desk and helping locals with their hardware questions.
  • Troubleshooting Classics: On the technical side, it was a mix of the usual suspects. I handled several routine upgrades, including swapping out slow HDDs for fast SSDs and upgrading RAM to speed up older office PCs.
  • Thermal Management: With the Cretan weather getting warmer, we also had a couple of PCs brought in that were overheating. A deep cleaning to remove dust, optimizing the airflow, and applying fresh thermal paste did the trick and got them running smoothly again.

Slides, Puzzles, and Bundesliga

After a busy week at the shop, the weekend offered the perfect change of pace:

  • Water Park Saturday: The whole group visited a local water park for a thrilling day on the water slides. We ended the day back at the house with a quiet puzzle evening and a communal dinner.
  • Bundesliga Finale: Sunday was completely dedicated to the final matchday of the Bundesliga season. We set up a viewing area out in the garden, allowing us to watch the matches together while soaking up the excellent Cretan weather.

Summary of the week: Between official evaluations, steady hardware routine, and a fun weekend, this week flew by. With our batteries recharged, we are officially ready to head into our eighth and final week of the internship!
