New Member and a Weekend Shock
The fourth week marked the halfway point of my internship here in Crete. It was a period characterized by progress in my programming work at MD Hellas, some pleasant social moments, and a very sobering weekend that reminded our group of the importance of safety and health.
Technical Tasks and Development
At the office, my focus remained on the Edureg project, the Python and Django-based management system. On Monday, I began implementing a thread function for the courses. This feature is designed to improve how teachers and students interact within the platform. Working with Django allows me to see the direct impact of backend logic on user experience, which is a rewarding aspect of this internship.

Life in the House and Local Discoveries
Living with seven other apprentices continues to be a dynamic experience. To make my living space more comfortable, I visited Jysk on Monday to purchase a pillow. Small improvements like these make the living feel more like a home.
After that we had a fun evening at the Iraklio bowling alley.

Recreation and Culture
Tuesday started with a relaxed breakfast before heading to MD Hellas, followed by a visit to the beach after work. On Wednesday afternoon, we explored the city center of Heraklion for some shopping, visiting familiar stores like Zara, Bershka, and H&M. It is interesting to see how these international brands fit into the local urban landscape. Before the weather turned on Thursday, we made the most of the Cretan lifestyle.

We also have a new unofficial member of the household. A cat that we named Laki, has taken up residence in our garden. Having a pet around brings a nice atmosphere to the property, and we enjoyed spending a quiet Thursday evening in the garden with the cat after the weather had been quite poor during the day.

The week was not without its technical hurdles. Friday proved to be particularly demanding as I encountered several issues with the database. Troubleshooting these problems was stressful, but it provided a realistic look at the challenges of software development. After a long day of debugging, the group went out to a local restaurant to decompress and enjoy a meal together.
A Difficult Weekend
The most significant event of the week occurred on Saturday. We were involved in a car accident with one of our rental vehicles. It was a major shock for everyone involved. Fortunately, no one suffered serious injuries. We spent a significant amount of time at the hospital getting everyone checked thoroughly to ensure there were no hidden complications.
Sunday was dedicated to recovery and logistics. Dealing with the aftermath of an accident in a foreign country is challenging. We spent the day communicating with the rental car company and organizing the necessary paperwork. This experience has been a reminder of how quickly things can change and has brought our group even closer together as we support one another through the stress. We are now looking forward to a calmer fifth week as we move past this incident.
