Birthday and a Database Dilemma
Mid-Week Visits and Celebrations
The week started on Monday when our instructors from Germany arrived to visit us at our villa. It was an excellent opportunity to show them how we have organized our communal life and managed our daily routines outside of work. The professional evaluation continued on Tuesday with a visit to the MD Hellas office. He had an insightful digression with our supervisor, Maria, regarding our progress and the status of our projects.
To conclude the review, we hosted a barbecue and a pool party at the house in the evening, which provided a great atmosphere to unwind and talk in an informal setting.
Wednesday was a very special day for me because it was my birthday, and my mother actually came to Crete to visit. I took some time off to celebrate with her. We had a really relaxed day together, went out for a nice dinner at a local restaurant, and just enjoyed the evening. It was great to see her and celebrate my birthday away from home.
Integration and Data Recovery at the Office
On the professional front, the development of the Edureg project took a major step forward on Thursday. We began implementing the initial concepts to connect InternConnect, the project developed by Torben and Ali, into the main Edureg management system. Integrating these separate Django components is crucial for creating a unified platform for managing courses, teachers, and students.
However, Friday reminded us of the unpredictability of software development. We experienced a severe crash of our SQLite database, which resulted in the loss of several data sets. A significant portion of the day had to be dedicated to troubleshooting and data recovery efforts. While the process was time consuming and required reconstruction, it was an invaluable lesson in database management. We managed to restore the system, reinforcing the absolute necessity of regular backups and robust data handling practices.
Weekend Relaxation and Football
After the stressful events on Friday, the weekend offered a welcome change of pace. On Saturday, the group visited a local water park for a day on the water slides, followed by a quiet puzzle evening and a communal dinner back at the house.
Sunday was dedicated to the final matchday of the Bundesliga season. We set up a viewing area in the garden, allowing us to watch the matches together while enjoying the excellent Cretan weather. It was the perfect way to recharge our batteries before entering our eighth and final week of the internship.
