My Fourth Week in Crete: Unexpected Events and Quiet Moments
Monday, 20 April 2026 - Pool Time and Bowling
On Monday, after work, we went back home and spent some time in the garden. Since the weather was really nice, we relaxed by the pool and just enjoyed the evening together.
Later that night, we decided to go to Heraklion and visit a bowling center. It was a really fun way to end the day, and we had a great time playing together and just enjoying the atmosphere.
Tuesday, 21 April 2026 - Breakfast, Beach and a New Cat
On Tuesday, we went out for breakfast, which was a nice change from our usual routine. I had sourdough bread with scrambled eggs and a salad, and it was really good. I would definitely recommend it.
After work, we went to the beach, where we spent some time by the sea and collected some pretty stones. What made it even more interesting was that the beach was close to an airport, so I could watch planes landing while we were there. That made the whole experience a bit different and actually really cool.
When we got back to the villa, we spent some time outside again, and there is now a cat that keeps coming to our place. She has kind of stayed with us, and we decided to name her Souvlaki. It’s really nice to have her around, and she has already become a small highlight for us.
Wednesday, 22 April 2026 - Shopping and a Relaxed Evening
On Wednesday, after work, we went to Heraklion to do some shopping. It was nice to spend some time in the city again and just walk around the shops for a bit.
After that, we got something to eat together, which made the evening even better. We then sat outside for a while, talked a lot, and just enjoyed the time together.
It was a simple evening, but really relaxed and a nice way to end the day after work.
Thursday, 23 April 2026 - Bad Weather but a Fun Evening
On Thursday, the weather wasn’t very good, so we spent most of the day inside. It was one of those days where you don’t really feel like going out much.
During the day, a Spanish colleague of Victor and Nico came to visit us with his newly rented car. We went for a short drive together, which was a nice change and something different despite the weather.
In the evening, we all stayed at the villa and played card games together. We had a lot of fun, laughed a lot, and just enjoyed the time as a group. Even though the weather wasn’t great, it turned into a really nice day.
Friday, 24 April 2026 - The Earthquake
On Friday morning, at around 6 a.m., there was an earthquake near Crete.
Interestingly, I didn’t really notice it myself and only heard about it later from others. Some people said they could feel the shaking, but I must have been asleep and didn’t notice anything.
Later, we found out that there had been a strong earthquake off the coast of Crete, which is why it was felt in different parts of the island.
Even though I didn’t experience it directly, it was still interesting to hear about it and know that something like that can happen here.
Saturday, 25 April 2026 – A Shocking Experience
On Saturday, something serious happened. We were involved in a car accident, which was a big shock for all of us.
At first, everything happened very quickly, and it was hard to process the situation. It’s not something you expect during a normal day. Luckily, no one was seriously injured, but it still felt very stressful in that moment.
Even though everything turned out okay, it was definitely a very intense experience that I won’t forget.
Saturday, 25 April 2026 - A Shocking Day
On Saturday, we were involved in a serious car accident, which was a huge shock for all of us. Everything happened very quickly, and it took a while to fully understand what had happened.
Even though the accident looked quite serious, we were very lucky that no one was badly injured. To be on the safe side, we went to the hospital so that everyone could be checked properly.
Thankfully, the doctors confirmed that everything was fine. That was a big relief for all of us. Even though the day ended well, it was still a very intense experience and definitely something I will not forget.
Sunday, 26 April 2026 - Taking It Easy
After everything that had happened the day before, Sunday was a much calmer day.
We mostly stayed at the villa and used the day to rest and recover. In the evening, we drove into the city for a short time to buy a few things we needed.
After we got back, we watched a movie together before going to bed. It was a very quiet and relaxing day, which was exactly what we needed after the stressful events of Saturday.
