Workdays & Island Nights
The second week of my Erasmus journey in Crete unfolded with a deeper rhythm between work and island life. Monday marked a continuation of our tasks at Psifiakos Kosmos, where we further developed the 10-inch terminal while diving into testing and bug reporting. As the workday ended, I laced up my running shoes and went for a jog — a habit that is slowly becoming part of my everyday life here.
Tuesday carried the same productive energy. We focused on configuring the vertical terminal and continued testing, step by step refining our progress. But the real highlight came afterward: under the warm Cretan sun, we finally jumped into the pool for the first time. In that moment, it truly felt like summer had arrived.
Wednesday followed a familiar pattern of testing and reporting, yet the evening brought a perfect contrast. Back at our Airbnb in Episkopi, we unwound by the pool and spent the night watching the UEFA Champions League — a simple but perfect blend of relaxation and excitement.
Thursday stayed consistent in terms of work, but the evening shifted into something more special. We gathered for a barbecue at the Airbnb, laughter mixing with the warm night air, and once again found ourselves drawn to the pool, enjoying both the temperature and the company.
Friday began like any other workday, calm and structured. Later, we planned a night out in Heraklion, but the Easter weekend — deeply rooted in Greek Orthodox tradition — had transformed the city. Many places were closed, and plans had to change. What followed instead was an unplanned walk through the quiet streets of Heraklion, offering a different, almost intimate perspective of the city.
Saturday slowed things down. I allowed myself to sleep in, went for a jog, and cooled off in the pool beneath the sun. By evening, we tried our luck again — this time heading to Hersonissos. There, we stumbled upon an Irish pub filled with energy and music, and it turned into one of the most memorable nights so far.
Sunday was reserved for recovery. I slept until the afternoon, embracing the slower pace. Later, we returned to Heraklion for a relaxed walk through the old town and enjoyed a meal at a local restaurant. The day gently faded out in the garden of our Airbnb, calm and unhurried.
Looking back, the second week was a balance of productivity and ease — a blend of work, relaxation, and a growing understanding of the local culture. Especially during the Easter period, it became clear how much traditions shape the rhythm of life here on Crete.
