Week 5: Recovery and Reflection

Week 5: Recovery and Reflection

The fifth week of my internship on Crete has been significantly different from the previous ones. After the car accident we experienced at the end of last week, it became clear that we all needed time to process the event and focus on our physical and mental well-being. Consequently, we took this week off to rest, recover from the shock, and regain our strength before returning to our usual routine.

Our shared house near Heraklion, which is usually a place of high energy and planning for the next adventure, became a quiet sanctuary this week. Living with seven other apprentices has shown me the true value of community. We spent a lot of time talking about the accident and supporting each other through the initial shock. It was important for us to have this collective space to decompress. We focused on simple daily tasks, shared meals, and ensured that everyone felt comfortable and safe. The community aspect of this Erasmus+ program has proven to be incredibly valuable in difficult moments like these.

Regarding my internship at MD Hellas, I stayed in contact with my supervisor, Maria. She was very understanding of the situation and emphasized that health and recovery must come first. While I did not spend time at the office in Petrou Parasiri this week, I am keeping the goals of the InternConnect project in mind. MD Hellas plays a crucial role as an agency for international internships, and I am eager to get back to developing the student and company registration system. I look forward to returning next week to continue my work with Django and backend logic.

There are no cultural excursions or road trips to report this week. We consciously decided to keep the rental cars parked and avoid any unnecessary travel. This period of stillness allowed us to reflect on our journey so far and appreciate the safety we often take for granted. After a busy month of exploring sites like the Palace of Knossos and navigating the streets of Heraklion, this pause was necessary. I feel much more grounded now and am ready to approach the final phase of this internship with a fresh perspective.
