Week 3: Technical Detective Work & Taking it Slow

Moin! After the cultural overload of the Greek Easter, week three was a bit more laid back. It was a mix of classic hardware tasks at the shop and some much-needed downtime to recharge the batteries.

The Life of a Tech Detective

At the shop, things were steady but interesting. While I did spend some time moving items into the warehouse, it was nowhere near as intense as the big overhaul that was coming later. Most of my time was spent on repairs:

  • The GPU Mystery: We had a PC where the graphics card simply wouldn't work. We spent quite a while troubleshooting and checking different components. In the end, the solution was surprisingly simple: a loose cable that wasn't obvious at first glance. It’s a good reminder that sometimes the simplest fix is the one you overlook!
  • The Crashing PC: Another system kept crashing repeatedly. We searched for the cause for ages until we finally realized it was a power supply issue. The PSU (Power Supply Unit) simply wasn't delivering enough juice to keep the system stable under load.
  • Standard Upgrades: Besides the "mysteries," I handled the usual business of swapping and installing SSDs and HDDs to give older machines a speed boost.

Chilling in Heraklion

Outside of work, this week was all about "Siga-Siga" (the Greek way of taking it slow).

  • City Strolls: We spent a lot of time just walking through the city center of Heraklion, enjoying the atmosphere and the harbor.
  • Nature Walks: We also headed back to the village of Episkopi for some relaxed walks in the greenery. It’s a nice contrast to the busy streets of the city.
  • Bowling & Relaxation: To keep the tradition alive, we hit the bowling alley again, just like in week one. The rest of the time was spent hanging out, reading, and just enjoying the internship life without a packed schedule.

Summary of the week: Not every week needs to be a mountain-climbing adventure. Week 3 was about solving technical puzzles and enjoying the Mediterranean pace of life. A perfect setup before the big "restructuring" and the palm forest adventures of week 4!
