Week 5: Routine, Hippie Vibes, and Kitchen Duty

Moin! Week five is officially wrapped. It’s interesting to see how things change; what felt like a challenge a few weeks ago is now becoming a smooth routine. But even with a routine, Crete still finds ways to surprise me.

The Power of Routine

At the shop, the work is becoming second nature. Many of the technical problems I encounter now feel familiar, which allows me to solve them much faster.

  • The Touchpad Fix: One laptop had a non-functional touchpad. To fix it, we had to carefully remove the keyboard just to reach and secure a loose connection cable.
  • Thermal Management: I dealt with another overheating PC. The culprit? Simply not enough fans to move the air. After some adjustments, it was running cool again.
  • Daily Tech: The rest of the week was filled with the "usual suspects"—swapping RAM, troubleshooting SSD issues, and the mandatory deep-cleaning of dusty hardware.

Matala: Lessons Learned (Again!)

This weekend, we visited Matala, and I have to admit: I made the same mistake twice. I mistakenly thought Matala was a mountain town, so—you guessed it—I didn't bring my swimming gear.

As it turns out, it’s right on the coast! Despite my lack of a swimsuit, the town is absolutely beautiful.

  • Hippie History: In the 60s and 70s, hippies lived in the caves carved into the cliffs. That "peace and love" spirit still fills the streets today, giving the whole town a very warm and welcoming vibe.
  • The Caves: We skipped the actual cave tour. We weren't wearing the right shoes for climbing around, and several locals told us that while it's "nice to see," it’s not necessarily a must-do if you’ve already seen the cliffs from the beach.

Chef for the Week

I really enjoy cooking (even if it can be a bit exhausting and annoying after a long day). This week, I took over the kitchen twice for the whole group:

  1. Big Mac Roll: A creative twist on the classic burger—it was a huge hit!
  1. Bolognese: A timeless comfort food. Unfortunately, we were all so hungry that I forgot to take a picture before it was gone!

Summary of the week: Routine at work gives me more mental space to enjoy the culture. Matala was a highlight, even without a dip in the ocean, and sharing a home-cooked meal with the group made the internship feel even more like home.
