Week 8: Conclusion and Integration
The eighth and final week of my internship has concluded, marking the end of a transformative journey. The house that initially felt like a temporary workspace has truly become a home. Saying goodbye to the group and our garden companion, Laki, was a sobering moment. This experience has taught us a great deal about resilience and community, especially as we supported one another through the challenges we faced earlier in the stay. The bond we formed while navigating life in a foreign country is something I will value long after we return home.
The technical highlight of the week at MD Hellas was the final integration of the InternConnect registration system with the existing EduReg platform. I spent the first half of the week merging the new registration logic I developed with the legacy management software. On Wednesday, I officially handed over the completed project to Maria. It is incredibly rewarding to know that my work will be used by the agency to facilitate future internships. My time at the office has provided me with a deep understanding of how a professional placement agency operates and how technical solutions can streamline complex logistics.
Reflecting on my competence development, this internship has been a significant leap forward for my career. I began with a theoretical interest in Python and Django and am leaving with practical experience in full stack development. I have mastered database management with SQLite, implemented backend logic, and created user friendly frontends with HTML and CSS. Beyond the code, my problem solving skills and ability to adapt to a foreign work environment have improved immensely. Navigating professional expectations while managing personal responsibilities in a new culture has made me much more confident and independent.
In summary, this Erasmus stay on Crete was the perfect balance of professional growth and personal discovery. I am returning home with a completed Europass, a successful software project left behind at MD Hellas, and a wealth of new perspectives. I am grateful for Maria's guidance and the opportunity to have worked in such a vibrant environment. While I look forward to seeing my family and friends, a part of me will certainly miss the pace of life under the Cretan sun.
